3 wins in a week for the Canaries, all while in the midst of a perceived injury crisis. Ffion Thomas was at Loftus Road, specifically to have herself a Pukki Party.
Biggest positive
Playing an unchanged line-up for a second away trip in four days against in-form opposition and yet seeing a clear increase in performance levels. Particular credit should go to the academy boys who, blessed with the elixir of eternal youth, never stopped running all game. With a bit more composure in front of goal, Cantwell could easily have got his name on the scoresheet too.
Moment of the match
Former Norwich transfer target Toni Leistner getting just enough of a deflection on Stiepermann’s cross to guide it perfectly into the path of Teemu Pukki’s puffed-out chest. “Did he mean it?” asked Sky Sports, in their eternal quest for talking points. A goal is a goal…and the flying Finn can’t get enough of them.
Random star performer
I’m not really a fan of Carrow Road’s current half-time entertainment, in which a tedious contest of “football curling” is drawn out over the entire season and at the end someone wins a trip to Florida. So it was refreshing to see QPR’s offering, where if you can chip the ball into a wheely bin you win fifty quid.
Weekly whinge
Rained all night didn’t it?
Farke watch
Wiped the floor with Steve McClaren tactically, and suitably dressed for the weather: this was a mild evening, but definitely worthy of a Big Coat.
Atmosphere
A good effort in both numbers and noise. Nice to hear everyone singing on the way out of an away end for what felt like the first time in a long time, because it was.
Summary
What a good week it’s been. You wait eight months for an away win, and then two come along within four days – and who could deny us being well worthy of both? While the win at Reading perhaps had elements of fortune in capitalising on their switching off, at Loftus Road we executed a tactical plan and performance of perfect control, refusing to allow a recently resurgent home side to take any kind of grip on the game and creating enough chances that one was always going to be converted, by hook, crook or chest.
